Ultrasound-Guided

Pain Relief Interventions

Dr Wilson Tay has a special interest and is skilled in ultrasound-guided interventions for chronic pain.

Unlike traditional methods that rely on anatomical landmarks or radiation-heavy X-rays, Dr Tay uses ultrasound technology to precisely target nerves, tendons, and muscles, ensuring medications are delivered exactly where needed for effective relief.

This minimally invasive approach enhances accuracy, reduces procedure time, lowers complication risks, and avoids radiation exposure. With faster recovery and reliable outcomes, Dr Tay’s ultrasound-guided treatments provide a safe and effective option for patients seeking chronic pain relief.

  • Herniated discs
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Sciatica
  • Chronic lower back or neck pain
Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a treatment that involves inserting thin, sterile needles into trigger points (tight knots in muscles) to relieve pain and improve mobility. It’s commonly used for sports injuries, chronic pain, muscle tightness, and myofascial pain syndrome.

Epidural Steroid Injections

Epidural Steroid Injections (ESIs) are anti-inflammatory injections delivered into the spine’s epidural space to reduce pain and swelling around irritated nerves.

Used for:

  • Herniated discs
  • Sciatica
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Chronic neck or lower back pain
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Joint Injection

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Joint Injection is a treatment for joint pain caused by osteoarthritis, especially in the knee.

Often called viscosupplementation, HA injections are ideal for patients who:

  • Haven’t responded well to pain medications or physiotherapy
  • Want to delay or avoid joint replacement surgery
Non-Surgical Pain Management

Non-surgical pain management refers to treatments that relieve pain without surgery. These methods focus on reducing inflammation, improving mobility, and addressing the root cause of pain through minimally invasive or conservative approaches.

Common Non-Surgical Treatments Include:

  • Medication (oral or topical)
  • Physical therapy and rehabilitation
  • Joint or spine injections (e.g. steroid, HA, PRP)
  • Nerve blocks or radiofrequency ablation
  • Dry needling or acupuncture
  • Lifestyle and ergonomic adjustments
Nerve Blocks

A Nerve Block is a targeted injection of anaesthetic or anti-inflammatory medication near specific nerves to block pain signals from reaching the brain.

Used for:

  • Chronic nerve pain (e.g. sciatica, neuralgia)
  • Back, neck, or joint pain
  • Post-surgical pain
  • Pain from injuries or inflammation
Neuromodulation Therapy

Neuromodulation Therapy is an advanced, non-drug treatment that uses electrical impulses to modulate nerve activity and interrupt pain signals between the nerves and the brain.

Used for:

  • Chronic nerve pain (e.g. sciatica, neuropathy)
  • Failed back surgery syndrome
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
  • Other long-term pain conditions that haven’t responded to traditional treatment
Nucleoplasty

Nucleoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat herniated or bulging spinal discs that cause back or neck pain.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injection

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) Injection is a regenerative treatment that uses your blood to promote natural healing in damaged tissues or joints.

Used for:

  • Osteoarthritis (especially knees)
  • Tendonitis and ligament injuries
  • Muscle tears
  • Chronic joint or soft tissue pain
Radiofrequency Ablation

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive procedure that uses heat generated by radio waves to destroy specific nerve fibres that transmit pain signals.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate healing in muscles, tendons, and joints.

Commonly used for:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Tennis elbow
  • Shoulder tendinitis
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Chronic muscle pain or trigger points
Spinal Cord Stimulation

Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) is an advanced pain management therapy that uses a small implanted device to send electrical impulses to the spinal cord, blocking pain signals before they reach the brain.

Commonly used for:

  • Chronic back or neck pain
  • Failed back surgery syndrome
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
  • Nerve-related pain unresponsive to other treatments
Trigger Point Injection

A Trigger Point Injection (TPI) is a quick, minimally invasive procedure to treat painful “knots” or trigger points in muscles that cause localised or referred pain.

Commonly used for:

  • Myofascial pain syndrome
  • Neck, back, and shoulder pain
  • Tension headaches
  • Fibromyalgia-related muscle pain
Ultrasound-Guided Joint Injections

Ultrasound-guided joint Injection is a precise, minimally invasive procedure where medication is injected directly into a joint using real-time ultrasound imaging to guide the needle.

Commonly used for:

  • Knee, shoulder, hip, and ankle joint pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Bursitis or synovitis
